Nick Cave

I've been a fan of Nick Cave's music for quite a number of years now. For those not familiar with the man and his many bands- The Boys Next Door, The Birthday Party, The Bad Seeds and more recently Grinderman, here's some photos and info.

I've always thought he had the perfect profile for caricaturing. So when the idea of a Nick Cave drawing jam popped up over at the Drawing Board, I finally had the chance to put theory into practice.

Edit: 6th April- Added a second jam caricature of Nick Cave. This one was done with brushpen, felt tip pen and digital additions in Photoshop.
Edit: 9th April- The third one is the Nick Cave from my sketchblog. I didn't like the idea of doubleposting between blogs, but I think this one deserves to be added here as well. It seems to make quite a nice triptych.

I can see this guy eventually turning into Mick Jager later in life. Another awesome caricature!

Thanks as always.

Kyle- Speaking of age, check out on Youtube the first song he did called 'Shivers' with The Boys Next Door. He's so young!

Kyle Bice- The first one started as shaded pencil. Once in Photoshop I blackened the hair, overlayed textures and experimented with layer modes to give it a more contrasted washed-out look.

Another winner Chris, nice use of the blacks with the line work that fits Nick Cave to a "t".

Love it. Your technique is amazing! Both the rendering and the caricaturing. Saw him on Jonathon Ross the other night. The hair on top of his head seems to have migrated to a new bushy mustache.

I just saw him in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford as a saloon singer. Looks like he's doing some sort of music work for the upcoming McCarthy film The Road. Chris - you really have him down.

Eric- Thanks man. Just recently read 'The Road', his music should suit the movie perfectly.
